During this year's Dementia Action Week, running until Sunday, Home Instead Senior Care will be holding a number of informative sessions and publishing stories and advice throughout its social media platforms.

The company, which runs its services in Telford, Bridgnorth, Newport and Market Drayton, provides in-home care to older people by sending out trained carers.

Jenny Warren, owner of Home Instead, said: "We care about dementia and want to support families and help people live well with it.

"Almost all of us know someone affected by dementia and so we all have a reason to take action and learn more about it.

"Awareness is key and we are passionate about supporting people to live well with it and we encourage anyone to get in touch if they would like more information."

Lisa White, carer at Home Instead, said: "Dementia can cause confusion with a person's visual perception and so things like patterns can make it hard to see an object.

"A good tip is to make sure food is served on a plain coloured plate as it is easier to see the food on it."

According to Alzheimer's Research UK, half of UK adults cannot identify any key risk factors for dementia.

Through a national survey, the charity found that only one per cent were able to name the known risk factors, which are heavy drinking, genetics, smoking, high blood pressure, depression and diabetes.

Dementia Action Week is an Alzheimer’s Society initiative designed to unite individuals, workplaces and the wider community to take action and improve the lives of people living with the condition.
