Madeley Town Council will ratify its decision at a meeting on January 14, after its Environment Committee agreed to support the proposal in principle.

The funding will go towards the refurbishment of three houses in the grounds of the hospital, which will be provided as free accommodation to junior and middle grade doctors when complete.

Donations have already come from Hadley & Leegomery Parish Council, Great Dawley Town Council, Wellington Town Council, Wrockwardine Wood and Trench Parish Council and Newport Town Council.

The project was launched last month in a bid to attract doctors to work at Telford's hospital.
