Shropdoc replaced with 111 number from today

The county's Shropdoc telephone service has been replaced by NHS 111 from today.

People can no longer call the Shropdoc phone number for out-of-hours medical help and advice.

From now, patients across Telford & Wrekin and Shropshire, will be asked to call 111.

The decision has been taken in line with a national policy to provide "a consistent, integrated approach to urgent care".

A statement from Shropdoc confirmed that "any patients that need to see a clinician out-of-hours will still be seen by a local GP or other appropriate clinician".

However, patients in Mid Wales have been told they should continue to use the Shropdoc number until NHS 111 is launched in Powys by the end of the year.

The move has not been without its critics and last week Gill George from Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin Defend Our NHS presented a petition with around 500 signatures to Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group members.

Ms George said the decision will lead to extra pressure on services.
