North Shropshire MP Owen Paterson was taken to the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, near Oswestry, following a fall from his horse in January.

He was in the Midland Centre for Spinal Injuries, which is widely renowned for the service and treatment it provides to patients.

Following his treatment, the MP has put the staff forward for the award.

On Twitter he announced: "Delighted to nominate Midland Centre for Spinal Injuries @RJAH_NHS for #NHS70 Care and Compassion Award.

"Caring for immobile patients' every need, they are extremely professional and dedicated to long-term rehabilitation."

Previously Mr Paterson and his wife Rose raised £60,000 for completing the toughest horse raise in the world, the Mongol Derby.

However he fell while riding and was transferred to the special spinal injuries unit where he received treatment.
