Stopping the controversial Future Fit process now will cause chaos, a Shropshire health boss has claimed.

Dr Julian Povey, chairman of Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group, has stressed that the process, which will determine the future of the county's healthcare, must continue.

In a tweet, he said it will improve healthcare and stopping it now will leave "no options and chaos".

He said stopping the consultation will accelerate problems and make NHS targets harder to reach.

Dr Povey added: "There won’t be the time, people or money to develop other options.

"We need to get the public funding approved and move forward."

His remarks come as fresh calls have been made to axe the shake-up by Telford & Wrekin Council leader Shaun Davies and Gill George, from Shropshire Defend Our NHS.

Wrekin MP Mark Pritchard and Telford MP Lucy Allan also recently met Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt to voice concerns about the length of time it was taking to reach a decision.
