Care home provider Bupa has hit back at high court threats from Powys County Council regarding the sale of 12 care homes.

A leaked document earlier this week revealed that the council is still prepared to threaten legal action over Bupa's proposed sale of its homes.

In August it emerged the care home provider would be selling a large number of care homes to HC-One in a deal worth £300 million.

When the news was announced Powys called for clarification over their 12 homes run by Bupa.

A leaked document from a meeting on November 2 revealed the council will seek a high court order prohibiting the sale if it has no alternative.

The document also said that the council wants to continue working with Bupa until the end of the contract and if it doesn't happen they will not hesitate in persuing the care company for damages.

Bupa has now hit back and insisted its plans haven't changed since its August announcement, and that its 122 homes in the UK, including the Powys ones, will transfer to HC-One, subject to regulatory approvals and employee consultation.

A Bupa spokesperson said: "Since our announcement in August, we have been in regular contact with the CSSIW and Powys County Council as we work towards transferring these homes to HC-One.”
