Former Market Drayton nursing home boss is struck off

The former manager of a nursing home who put residents at risk by failing to ensure their injuries and conditions were managed properly has been kicked out of the profession.

Lorraine Wright failed to ensure residents' care plans were in place and assessments were reviewed while working at Beech House Nursing Home in Wollerton, near Market Drayton.

The charges, which relate to incidents between September 22, 2009, and February 19, 2013, resulted in an original nine-month suspension, which was extended to a further six months in January this year.

Among the charges are that between November 12, 2012, and January 11, 2013, she failed to ensure that a residents' care plan had been adequately completed in relation to end of life.

On or around November 12, 2012, she failed to ensure that a facial injury was managed appropriately and in another case she failed to ensure that there was a nutritional plan in place for a resident.

Mrs Wright is now being struck off the nursing register following a hearing of the Nursing and Midwifery Council in London. A report of the hearing said the panel considered carefully whether Mrs Wright's fitness to practise remains impaired.

"In reaching its decision, the panel took into account the need to protect the public, maintain public confidence in the profession, and the need to declare and uphold proper standards of conduct and performance," it said.

"The panel considered that it had no new information that would undermine the concerns identified by the original substantive panel or the first reviewing panel.

"There was no information before this panel to indicate any change in Mrs Wright's circumstances.

"The panel noted that Mrs Wright has failed to act upon any of the recommendations made by the original substantive panel or the first reviewing panel which were designed to address her past misconduct.

"Mrs Wright has not engaged with the NMC since the last review hearing in January 2016.

"The panel at the substantive hearing found that Mrs Wright's insight was limited to her failings as a manager.

"There has been no evidence before this panel that Mrs Wright has developed any further insight into her actions or made any attempts to remedy her clinical practice. The panel considered that Mrs Wright's failings are remediable.

"The panel therefore concluded that Mrs Wright's fitness to practise remains impaired."

Jayne Wade, current manager of the home, did not wish to make a comment about Mrs Wright.
