Tin can copper scared young Allan

See that wall on the right? That's where Allan Potter and his mate put their tins cans, and shot at them. And then scarpered at the appearance of police.

Brrr... trudging through the snow and slush in January 1963.

Allan, who lives in Muxton these days but used to live in Dawley, had no trouble identifying this snowy Dawley road which we featured in Picture From The Archive the other day. The photo was taken in January 1963.

"I'm 100 per cent certain that it's Meadow Road," said Allan, who will turn 80 in August.

"It ran from the High Street down to by the Royal cinema. I used to put a tin can on that wall on the right with a friend of mine and shoot at it with an air rifle. I lived in Portley Road and he lived at the back of the High Street and his name was Milvert Lloyd.

"One day while we were shooting a policeman rode past on his push bike. We ran like hell."

We've had a look on Google Street View to try to see if this street is the same today, but it's difficult to tell, possibly becomes a relatively modern road cut across part of Meadow Road at some point.
