The 161-acre former dairy farm in the countryside near Oswestry, close to the Welsh foothills, includes a five-bedroom farmhouse.

Auctioneer David Giles of Halls, said there were more buyers than sellers of agricultural properties in the county.

Pentre Kendrick Farm near Weston Rhyn, near Oswestry also includes a range of traditional and modern farm buildings, planning consent for three homes and level farmland.

In its most recent past it had been taken out of dairy farming to become a livestock and arable enterprise.

Bidding, at the auction at the Lion Quays Hotel & Spa,opened at £1 million.

"Just 11 bids later it was sold at £1.9 million to a local purchaser," Mr Giles said.

Mr Giles said inquiries had come in from across the UK before the auction, which he said proves Shropshire is still desirable amongst buyers nationwide.

He added: "The farm and residence are so well maintained and presented that the buyer could literally move in and start farming straight away.

"It served as a dairy farm until four years ago but is equally well suited to livestock rearing and arable cropping.

"Shropshire is traditionally a farming county and possesses some of the highest quality land and most picturesque countryside in the UK.

"While there are still many unspoilt rural locations, farms are not isolated as they are never that far from a major road network, which makes it a easy for people to access market towns and cities."

Also on offer was 45 acres of arable, grassland and woodland at Berghill, Whittington, Oswestry, which sold for £410,000 also to a local buyer.

Mr Giles, a director of Halls, said both he and the vendors were delighted with the excellent prices achieved at auction for the two lots on offer.

"There have been a few more farms on the market recently but there are still more buyers than sellers and the results gives the company confidence as we look forward to our next property auction on November 14," he said.

He revealed that the previous owners of Pentre Kendrick Farm were retiring to Cheshire.

Halls' next collective auction will be at the company's Battlefield headquarters in Shrewsbury.
