Towpath building will be the latest task to be carried out to restore the Montgomery Canal.

From Friday to Sunday the Shropshire Union Canal Society volunteers will be building up the last 20 metres of the path near Crickheath which has subsided over the centuries.

This work will involve creating a humped section that will be compressed over the next six months.

Shaping work along the channel will also continue in preparation for lining later in the year.

Work to rebuild School House Bridge, a separate project, run by the Restore The Montgomery Group is also underway in Long Lane.

A survey of the canal channel from Crickheath Bridge to the site of School House Bridge has been commissioned by the Canals and Rivers Trust to enable towpath levels to be established which will in turn benefit the new School House Bridge construction and provide specific information for any future work being undertaken in this section.
