Police closed off the slip road to Wrekin Retail Park near Wellington at 2.30pm on Thursday while firefighters tried to get control of the blaze.

There were no passengers on board and no injuries.

Arriva spokeswoman Cora Robinson: "We worked with emergency services on the scene.

"Our resources were focussed on that, but we can confirm there were no injuries in the fire and no passengers were involved."

Two fire crews were sent from Telford Central and Wellington to help control the fire. They used two breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, a thermal imaging camera and small gear to tackle the blaze.

They were happy that the fire was out by 2.56pm, but emergency services stayed on the scene while the bus was collected.

Engineers from Arriva were on the scene, as well as members of the Environment Agency who ensured the area was safe after some oil spillage. It was expected to add to traffic issues on the nearby Ketley Brook roundabout, where roadworks have been causing problems for several weeks.
