Sheep rescued as tractor fire closes Ludlow road - with pictures

A tractor towing nearly 50 sheep caught fire and blocked a Ludlow road today.

The 49 sheep had to be offloaded from the trailer after the tractor caught fire on the B4367 Overton Road near Ludlow cattle market at about 7.50am.

Four fire appliances were were called from Craven Arms, Ludlow and Wellington, along with an operations officer, and put out the blaze within 20 minutes.

A spokesman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said no one was hurt in the fire and the sheep were not in danger as the trailer was detached. All animals were transferred safely out of the way.

The road was temporarily closed between Wigmore Road and the B4361 while crews dealt with the fire and animals.
