Shrewsbury Town v Coventry: Fans warned not to bring flares

Football fans have been warned not to bring flares or pyrotechnics to Shrewsbury Town this weekend.

West Mercia Police say they will have a "proportionate" presence at Shrewsbury Town's crucial League One match with Coventry City tomorrowon Saturday. Coventry fans have used flares a number of times this season to protest against the club's owners Sisu.

The match kicks off at 3pm at the Greenhous Meadow on Oteley Road.

TDespite taking to social media to warn fans not to use flares or pyrotechnics, the force said there was no intelligence to suggest there will be disorder.

Chief Inspector Sean Kent said: "We will have a proportionate policing operation in place for Shrewsbury Town's game against Coventry City on Saturday.

"The policing plan has been implemented as a precaution. There is no intelligence to suggest any disruption.

"We are aware of the use of flares at previous football matches and are warning fans attending this game that flares or pyrotechnics will not be tolerated.

"A robust searching operation will be conducted at the ground."
