It was still a busy night for the service with 18 call-outs between about 5.30pm and 10.30pm.

The most serious was a blaze that broke out in a derelict pub in the Telford area.

Two crews from Tweedale and Wellington were called to the Queens Arms Inn in Dawley Bank at around 6.40pm, when the first floor of the pub was found to be on fire.

The blaze had taken hold of 15 metres by 10 metres of floorspace, and crews dealt with it in about half an hour.

The evening started with firefighters from Ludlow called to The Crescent, Clee Hill, at about 5.30pm, where a car seat had been set alight on rough ground.

Then at 5.45pm in Bridgnorth a crew was called to bring a large bonfire of conifer and wood under control.

In Shrewsbury a fire made out of pieces of rubbish was put out on Gloucester Road, Harlescott Grange, as it was found with no adults present to oversee it.

At 6.50pm in Catherton, Stirchley, a tree in a garden caught alight from a stray firework but was put out by house holder before crews arrived.

There were three call outs to bonfires that were assessed to be under control between about 7pm and about 8pm, at Wingfield Gardens in Shrewsbury, Stocking Park Road in Lightmoor and High Street in Hadley.

An unattended bonfire was found and put out at Lower Wood, The Rock, Telford at about 8.30pm and the alarm was raised over another small bonfire

on Sundorne Road, Shrewsbury which was found to be out on arrival.

A crew from Oswestry were called to Mount Road where a tree branch had caught fire at about 9.50pm and there were two more call outs to controlled fires where firefighter left after giving advice, at Warrensway, Woodside, Telford at about 10pm and at High Street, Hadley at about 10.40pm.

Friday was also a busy night for firefighters, with incidents including a large tree that burst in to flames after being hit by a firework.

Fire crews from Shrewsbury were called to Kingfisher Close, Sundorne Close at just before 8pm and approximately five metres of fir tree were damaged.

At 10.20pm there was a rogue bonfire put out in Kynaston Road, an anti-social behaviour hotspot in Shrewsbury.

Although there were adults present, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service gave bonfire advice to those involved.

Emergency services decided to base their bonfire night headquarters at Harlescott Community Centre this year after ongoing anti-social behaviour problems in the Kynaston Road area.
