The MP, a Brexiteer, spoke to the students about a variety of topics, including the subjects they are currently studying, what they wish to study in future, how he became an MP and what the future of the country will look like.

Mr Paterson was interested in hearing about the views of the students, and offered them advice on their next steps as they make the transition between school, further education and higher education.

He spoke about Brexit, including the impending proposal that Prime Minister Theresa May has offered, along with the effect that Brexit will have on their chosen paths in future employment.

He said: “It was a fantastic morning and I had a fascinating and interesting discussion with this generation. It was wonderful to hear that some of the students are interested in medicine and technology, which I see as excellent careers to aim for.

"I would like to congratulate the students for what they have achieved and wish them the best of luck for the future."
