Concord College summer school’s ranking, out of a total of 136 residential schools inspected, was described as an ‘extraordinary achievement’ by its summer school directors.

For the Acton Burnell-based college, which last year attracted 580 students aged 10-17, gained 11 strengths from 15 in their inspection which saw them score 73 per cent.

The inspection of the country’s summer schools is carried out by the British Council which accredits them for the teaching of English in the UK.

Confirmation of Concord College’s ranking is listed in the latest edition of EL Gazette which is a magazine for English language and international education.

EL Gazette uses the British Council inspection reports to add up the number of strengths and produces a percentage score which is used as the ranking tool.

“We are both delighted with our ranking and thrilled with our inspection report,” said Kari Butler, Concord College summer school director.

“It was a huge team effort and our strengths were achieved from the hard work of all Concord departments as well as our teachers who worked tirelessly to showcase the strengths of our summer courses.”

Maggie Poole, director of studies added: “One of the strengths identified from our inspection was the teaching ability of our teachers and the considerable amount of continued professional support offered to our employees, demonstrating how much we value the commitment of our staff.”

The 11 areas of strength achieved by Concord included staff management, student admin, quality assurance, premises and facilities, learning resources, academic management, learner management, care of students, accommodation, leisure opportunities and the care of under 18’s.
