The pupils from Shifnal Primary School received their Young Cadet certificates of accomplishment in a special ceremony attended by officers from West Mercia Police and the Police and Crime Commissioner's ambassador Graham Oliver – in front of children's proud parents and teachers.

The youngsters have taken part in regular sessions about everything from the role of a police constable to personal safety to using police radio, delivered by their local policing team.

Youth engagement officer PC Scott Smither said: "The aim of the scheme is to enforce relationships between young people and the police, to give them an idea of the challenges we face in protecting the communities that they live in.

"Each session has been focused on a different aspect of policing, from road safety to public order.

"The sessions have been delivered in a fun way but at the same time important messages have been delivered to the children taking part. I think it has been a great success."

The programme was delivered after being agreed with the school and also included topics such as communication, forensics, anti-social behaviour and the security of their own and other children's personal property.
