Shrewsbury Colleges Group is holding a 12-week evening course starts on February 3, with another course starting in April.

The course is also a stepping- stone to the Level 4 (equivalent to year one of a degree), or a full PGCE to teach students aged 16 or above.

Study is part-time, in just one evening a week and the cost can be spread across the 12 weeks. 95 per cent of students on the course have passed over the last four years.

Michelle Dawes, Head of Higher Education and Course Leader at SCG said: “This is a fantastic course for anyone who is interested in becoming a teacher or trainer and wants to be sure it’s for them.

“Not only is SCG the only provider of this course in the county, it is also the only provider of the courses for teaching in the post 16 compulsory sector you can progress to from here."

Louise Thomas, a beauty teacher at SCG, did the L3 course because teaching had always been a “passion.”

“Before completing the L3, I was a self-employed beauty therapist, working around three young children. I chose the correct time to pursue this career and it fitted well into my family life.

“I knew I wanted to be a teacher and the time was right for me and my family to pursue this goal. I then transitioned straight to the L5 course, which was a challenge, though the support I received from teachers provided the I tools needed to succeed.

"Whilst completing the first year of L5 I had the opportunity to spend one day a week on placement, securing the position as beauty teacher at the end of my first year.

“I completed the second year of L5 in role, providing an excellent opportunity to use the knowledge gained from my course and leading learners in their chosen course.”

A free compulsory ‘taster’ session for the course is being held on January 13, 2021 from 5pm-6pm at the London Road Campus.
