Teachers at Lightmoor Village Primary School began sending children home soon after 8.30am when the toilets were found to have stopped flushing.

Russell Griffin of Telford & Wrekin Council explained that the school's rainwater pump that fed its toilets had broken, which had also caused a minor electrical problem.

The school announced on Twitter: "Due to unforeseen circumstances the school will be closed today due to lack of functioning toilet facilities.

"We cannot have pupils onsite for health and safety reasons. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
