Hundreds of miles between them but Shropshire and Bulgaria are closer than you think
They may be many hundreds of miles* apart but there are more similarities between England and Bulgaria that many might think.
Dobromira Bachvarova, 15, and Simona Kancheva, 15, who moved from Bulgaria to Oswestry, are students at the town's Marches School and are part of the schools apprenticeship programme.
They are spending one day a week at the Oswestry Museum where they have completed an exhibition, looking at the differences and similarities between the two countries.
Mark Hignett, from the museum, said: "The first thing they noticed was the price of chocolate. One particular bar that can be bought for £1 here in Oswestry apparently costs £6 in Bulgaria!"
But he said there were also many similarities.
"They have looked at social life, school uniforms, food and festivals."
Mr Hignett said that a few weeks ago there was a Bulgarian festival in Cae Glas Park.
"There is a large Bulgarian community in the Oswestry area. We hope that they will come in and see the display and, in doing so, will learn more about Oswestry."
As well as Dobromira and Simona, the museum recently welcomed four students from the Marches for a week of work experience.
"Rather than find jobs for them to do we ask them to research a project of their choice for the museum. We like them to take ownership of their work experience week. One looked at women in World War One and the others at Oswestry's medical institutions.
"Their work is in in a special display cabinet and will remain there for 12 months."
