Geoff Pettengell has left his role as chief executive of the Shrewsbury Academies Trust following discussions with the board

Geoff Pettengell served his last day in the role for the trust - which covers Shrewsbury Academy, The Grange Primary School in Shrewsbury and Longlands Primary School in Market Drayton - on Friday.

It is understood that Mr Pettengell’s decision to step down as CEO was taken following lengthy discussions.

In a statement, the board of trustees thanked Mr Pettengell for his hard work and wished him success in the future.

Last year government inspectors criticised teaching at the Grange Primary School saying that pupils were failing to make good progress but gave the Longlands Primary School a glowing report just three years after it was at the bottom of the county’s league tables.

As Shrewsbury Academy was only formed in September 2016 , following the amalgamation of the Grange Secondary School and Sundorne Secondary School there is no Ofsted report available.

Lowell Williams, chair of the board of trustees at SAT, thanked Mr Pettengell for his work. He said: “After discussions with the new chairman and board of trustees about the future direction of the trust, Geoff Pettengell has decided to step down from his role as CEO and trustee. His last day of work was May 11.

“The trustees are very grateful for all that Geoff has done to improve the life chances of the students in SAT academies.

“They would like to thank Geoff for his valuable contribution to the growth of the Trust and wish him every success in his future endeavours.

“Geoff would like to send his thanks and best wishes to all who have supported him over the years and would like to wish you all the very best for the future.”
