A record number of students from Shrewsbury Colleges Group have been accepted into the country’s top universities.

Twelve of the record 16 students celebrate being offered places at Oxford and Cambridge

This year 16 pupils have been offered places at Oxford and Cambridge universities - a record for the college and the first time the figure number has reached double figures for a number of years.

Principal and college chief executive, James Staniforth, paid tribute to the students for their hard work and dedication.

“We are absolutely delighted for all 16 students,” he added. “They are individually and collectively hard-working, intellectually curious, creative and passionate about their subjects. All of them regularly go the extra mile in their studies.

“Cambridge and Oxford are world-class universities, but they are still lucky that so many of our wonderful students will be joining them this autumn.

“Sixteen offers is a record for the college and it reflects on both our students and their pursuit of excellence, but also on the support of so many teachers and personal tutors who have inspired our students and then helped them through the application and interview process.”
