Wolverhampton will be the only university competing in this season's MSV F3 Cup competition and will put its car to the test in 17 rounds at world famous tracks including Brands Hatch, Silverstone and Donington. Shane Kelly, 36, will be behind the wheel.

Last year the university has entered the Monoposto Championship, again buying its own Formula Renault car driven by a professional driver, and supported by a team of engineering staff and students.

Wolverhampton University has committed to investing £12 million in the campus at Priorslee.

David Tucker, team principal and principal lecturer in motorsport at the University of Wolverhampton, said: "The massive investment that has gone into our facilities provides a really attractive course offering for students who want to study engineering.

"We have committed sponsors on board, students have their own car to work on and we're competing in a fantastic championship with F3 Cup."

As well as allowing them to take on projects such as the car, the investment will add new features to the site will including a wind tunnel, engine test facilities, 3D printing facilities and laboratories.
