Egg-citing dino discovery for Shrewsbury pupils

Schoolchildren in Shrewsbury have been letting their imaginations run riot – after they found some giant dinosaur eggs.

Pupils at Greenfields Primary School in found a clutch of eggs, and even watched them hatch.

And they have been writing about the exciting discovery as part of their literacy studies.

Key stage one manager Becky Goodall believes the eggs provided fuel for the imagination, with talk of a dinosaur or even a giant dodo making the nest.

Miss Goodall said: "The children came into school knowing nothing about the eggs so they were really excited to find them.

"There were three eggs in a big nest on the field and the children have been full of ideas as to what laid the eggs. We've done this as part of Everybody Writes week which is a real stimulus for the children.

"They've been writing poetry and stories, they went back to the nest where they found out the eggs had started to hatch.

"All of our pupils have taken part in some way and it's been really fun for everybody. It's really got the children stimulated"

Everybody Writes week is in partnership with Booktrust and the National Literacy Trust, and provides teachers with innovative ideas.

Miss Goodall said: "It's really got the children stimulated, they thought dodos had laid the eggs.

"We've had some really funny suggestions."
