Diane Pye has taken on the role at Rushbury Primary School, near Church Stretton.

She joined Rushbury as the acting head teacher in the Autumn term but has now been appointed on a permanent basis.

Mrs Pye, who also taught in Shrewsbury, has enjoyed literary success in the past under the pen name of Arabella Armstrong.

Her book Danny Daydream knocked Jamie Oliver's 30-Minute Meals from the book chart at Shrewsbury Waterstones in 2010.

Mrs Pye said she was delighted to be given the chance to lead the school, which was judged as good by schools inspector Ofsted, and couldn't wait to get back after Christmas and start the New Year.

She said: ""I joined the school after leaving Woodfield Infants in Shrewsbury.

"I'm really looking forward to the New Year at the school where we have lots of exciting things planned for the children.

"I love working with children and have written childrens books in the past and enjoyed some success.

Mrs Pye, lives in Shrewsbury with her husband and two teenage children.
