Shropshire's Charley Edge has been offered a two-year scholarship with Premier League club Everton.

The Year 10 student at the Marches School in Oswestry will start the scholarship in July next year when he completes his education.

The Aberystwyth-born teenager, who has also been on the books of Swansea and Stoke and only joined Everton 10 months ago, is delighted.

He said: "This has been an amazing confidence boost and has put a massive smile on my face. I feel on top of the world."

Neal Martin, director of sport at the Marches said: "I am thrilled that Charley has been successful in his career so far. He is very dedicated and talented player and has good support from his family.

"We will watch his career carefully and, one day, hope to see him play at the highest level in the Premier League with Everton or as a full international with Wales."

Marches School spokeswoman Amy Gregory told of how the school was thrilled by Charley's success.

She said: "Charley's blossoming football career has already taken him overseas and while playing for Everton, he has competed in Singapore and travelled to Ireland, where they won the under-14 section of the Milk Cup."
