A south Shropshire headteacher has apologised after claiming a primary school concert had been postponed because of complaints from neighbours about the noise.

John Taylor, who has lived opposite Cleobury Mortimer Primary School for 20 years, said many friends and neighbours were ignoring him after headteacher Bavita Williams sent out a letter to parents.

The initial letter, sent out in June, said: "Recently some of our neighbours have made a formal complaint about the noise/disturbance of all after-hours school events causing them distress and affecting their health and well-being."

Mr Taylor said he had received a written letter of apology from Mrs Williams, who also promised to circulate it to parents and staff.

But he said: "Mrs Williams was supposed to hand out the second letter at the school gate and put it in the newsletter but it did not happen.

"There are only four or five houses adjacent to the school and some belong to parents so people still think I complained about the concert and I did not."

Mrs Williams said: "We have a great relationship with the local community and have apologised to our neighbours for any misunderstanding that may have been caused.

"I would be more than happy to discuss this further with any of our neighbours, and see if we can do anything further to allay any concerns."
