Specialist officers were seen near Wellington town centre at about 8pm last Thursday, after a number of police cars pulled up in Glebe Street.

Officers with guns and police dog handlers were spotted, and eyewitnesses reported seeing weapons trained on an upstairs window.

Today West Mercia Police confirmed that officers were investigating a gun scare.

A statement said: "Officers attended a property in the High Street, Wellington on Thursday, April 1 at around 8pm after we received a report that someone was inside with a knife and a firearm.

"On arrival specialist officers searched the property and checked other nearby properties but no weapons were identified and the situation was resolved without incident."
