Armed police called to Welshpool over reports of man with knife

Armed police were called to Welshpool after report of a man carrying a knife in the town.

Three teams from Wales' Joint Firearms Unit reported to what they called a 'full authority' alert on Wednesday night.

The drama began after 999 calls from residents in Oldford Close in the early evening.

A spokesman for Dyfed Powys Police said: "We were called to a report of a man in possession of a knife in Oldford Close, Welshpool, shortly after 6.30pm on Wednesday .

"A 34-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article."

Police said the man had since been released and will face no further action.
