Shot fired at car in 'targeted' Telford housing estate attack

Telford Police said the car, which was targeted by the reported shot, had been empty at the time and no one had been injured.

The incident happened at Hurleybrook Way in Telford shortly after 8.30pm yesterday.

Armed officers and the police dog unit were dispatched to the scene in Leegomery.

The gunman was said to have left the area in what officers described as a "dark-coloured hatchback car".

They have now appealed for information about the incident, and moved to reassure the community that they do not believe there is a wider risk.

Detective Inspector Lee Holehouse said that he believed the incident had been targeted, and that extra patrols had been put in place while it is investigated.

A spokesman for the force said: "West Mercia Police is appealing for witnesses or information following an incident in Leegomery, Telford, last night.

"Police were called shortly after 8.30pm to Hurleybrook Way, following a report a shot had been fired at an unoccupied car.

"It's believed the offender then left the scene in a dark-coloured hatchback car.

"There were no reported injuries. Armed officers and the dog unit were deployed to the scene as part of the incident."

Det Insp Holehouse added: "Enquiries are ongoing and we are currently treating this an isolated and targeted incident.

"We understand this may be a concerning incident for the community, and we will have extra officers carrying out additional patrols in the area while we investigate the incident. If anyone has any concerns, please speak with them.

"We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or a dark-coloured hatchback in the area at this time to please get in touch."
