James Broadbent, 46, appeared before a judge to face a charge that he perverted the course of public justice on August 18.

Miss Sati Ruck, prosecuting, told Shrewsbury Crown Court that Broadbent was arrested after assaulting his father at an address, in Yew Tree Grove, Highley.

"When he was released he went to the address and cleaned up his father's blood. He had a plausible explanation saying that he wished to clean up.

"There is insufficient evidence to take the matter any further," Miss Ruck told the court.

Broadbent , also of Yew Tree Grove, was found not guilty of the offence following a brief hearing.
