Derek Whyteside: Alleged teen killer in court over Telford murder

A teenager has appeared in court charged with the murder of 42-year-old Derek Whyteside.

The 16-year-old alleged killer, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Stafford Crown Court on Monday.

He was charged in relation to the death of Mr Whyteside, who was allegedly attacked in Withywood Drive in Malinslee, Telford, a week ago.

No plea or bail application were made at the hearing and he was remanded in youth detention until August.

Mr Whyteside, of Chesterfield Road, Dawley, was found unconscious at around 4.30pm on June 18 and was taken to hospital but later died of his injuries.

More than £2,000 has been raised to support the family of Mr Whyteside, who was described as nice, loveable and a 'fab dad' to his partner Michelle's children

Two men, a woman and two other teenage boys arrested in connection with the incident have been released on police bail.

Enquiries are ongoing and police are continuing to appeal for witnesses.

Increased patrols are being carried the area to offer reassurance to the local community.
