Police issued the warning after reports of a man riding the bike on the Birchmeadow playing fields, after 6pm on Wednesday.

A spokesman for the police said: "A member of the public reported to the police that an unidentified male was riding a motorcycle on the Birchmeadow playing fields.

"This is completely illegal and can be very dangerous, the area is used by dog walkers, children playing and people out for a pleasant walk. It is not an area suitable for the riding of motorcycles.

"The riding of motorcycles off-road is illegal unless the rider has the express permission of the landowner. Permission of this type has not been given for the Birchmeadow and this rider was causing alarm and distress to other people legitimately using the area.

"Such riding is clearly dangerous and the safer neighbourhood team would like to identify them so that they can be spoken to regarding this behaviour. If they persist in riding illegally in this manner a section 59 warning notice can be issued to them and if they do not then curb their behaviour then their motorcycle will be seized by the police.
