A call has gone out for volunteers to keep an eye on Ironbridge's trail of giant ducks this weekend.

Organisers behind the Let's Go Quackers trail are hoping to keep the remaining ducks from being damaged by hiring volunteer guards for the pieces.

They hope to have people standing by to protect three of the most vulnerable statues, which have been placed further away from the area's more busy streets.

They would like volunteers to watch the ducks between 10pm and 1.30am each night on tonight, Saturday and Sunday.

It comes after some of the ducks were damaged by vandals.

Most recently, the Peace Duck was pulled from its pedestal and thrown in the River Severn.

It was found and recovered, and will be repaired before being put back out.

Before that Lady Victoria was damaged. She was due to be returned to her pedestal at the Toll House last night after being refurbished – at a cost of £550

The hand-painted pieces of art were the brainchild of Julie Ward, and will go on display in Telford Shopping Centre from July 14 before being auctioned off for charity.

Julie said: “We’re ecstatic that she’s now back in place, but we’re so cautious now. Thousands of people have responded to the vandalism with positivity.

“It’s not just about them wrecking it, we’ve also had to get the concrete moved so we can put her in a more visible place now. It’s a massive job to repair them. We want them in perfect condition as we’re going to auction them off for charity afterwards. Hopefully in this location she will be more visible in the light.”
