A property developer has been given a suspended prison sentence and ordered to do 200 hours unpaid work after admitting assault.

Duncan Evans of Clive Road, Pattingham, pleaded guilty to assault by beating when he appeared at Cannock Magistrates Court on Monday.

Magistrates sentenced Evans to four months in prison, suspended for 12 months.

He was also made the subject of a 12-month supervision order which included 200 hours unpaid work.

Evans had previously denied the assault, which took place on February 6, but changed his plea before the trial was due to start.
