Oswestry Town Council has won funding from West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion for additional infrastructure and cameras.

It will put an additional £6,500 towards the budget.

Councillor Chris Schofield said it would be used to cover the Castlefields area of town.

"Castlefields will be covered after some disturbances up there so I think it's a good idea."

Oswestry launched its CCTV scheme in 2001, since when it has gone on to win awards and been used as an example across the country of how to run a successful operation. It was named the best volunteer-led CCTV project in the county and also won a local council special project award.

Mobile cameras have also been suggested to be used in known hotspots for crime and anti-social behaviour.

This was used in nearby Whittington in the fight against anti-social behaviour happening around the castle area.
