Telford shop manager stole drugs from his own store
A Telford shop manager has been warned he could be jailed after admitting stealing drugs from his own workplace twice in four days.
Robert Price pleaded guilty to twice burgling the Telford branch of Superdrug, where he was the manager, and of possessing a controlled Class C drug in September 2017.
Price, aged 36, admitted burglary at the drug store and possessing 100mg of diazepam when he appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court. He will be sentenced at a later date.
The burglaries took place on September 15 and September 17, and the defendant was found with the diazepam in his possession on September 23.
Judge Anthony Lowe told Price, of Windsor Close, Rugeley, Staffordshire, that jail was one of the options the sentencing judge would consider.
He said: “This is a case of abuse of trust, and it clearly crosses the custody threshold.”
The case is next due at Shrewsbury Crown Court on April 16.
Diazepam, which is sometimes called valium, typically produces a calming effect and is used to treat a range of conditions including anxiety, alcohol withdrawal syndrome, seizures, trouble sleeping, and restless legs syndrome.
