Police today appealed for witnesses after two men assaulted and robbed a security guard on his way back to his van in Shrewsbury.

Police were called to Arlington Way at about 2.40pm on Tuesday.

Two robbers approached the guard as he returned to his security van and assaulted him.

The thus, wearing balaclavas and dressed in dark clothing, managed to take a cash box before leaving in a dark coloured vehicle, possibly a Seat Leon.

The victim did not suffer serious injuries but was left shaken up by the incident.

Inquiries are ongoing but officers are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area at the time.

Inspector Charles Parker said: “A thorough investigation has been launched following this incident, and we are thankful that nobody was injured.

“We are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. Any information, no matter how small, could be significant to our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident number 339S of 13 February.
