Glen Evans pleaded guilty to driving a tractor unit and trailer dangerously on the A458 on October 7, 2016, causing serious injuries to car driver Adele Horton.

Evans, aged 51, was due to stand trial after initially denying the allegations, but changed to a plea of guilty ahead of the hearing at Shrewsbury Crown Court.

The court heard that the case relates to a collision involving a Mercedes articulated lorry driven by Evans that struck the rear of the stationary car that was waiting to turn right. The collision caused the car to ‘cannon’ into the path of an oncoming vehicle, injuring Ms Horton.

Prosecuting barrister Mr Timothy Ashmole said: “The accident examiners found no fault with the brakes.”

He told the court that Evans has previous convictions for dangerous driving including an incident in 1999 for which he was fined.

Mr Ashmole asked Judge Anthony Lowe to impose an interim driving ban on Evans, of Princess Way, Stourport.

Judge Lowe told Evans: “I think in this circumstance I will order a pre-sentence report. I don’t know what caused you to plead guilty today, it could be that you’ve had some very sensible advice from your defence barrister. There will be an inevitable ban.

"From today you must not drive. You are aged 51 and you have some driving matters on your record, but nevertheless I will want to know as much about you as possible. Very serious injuries were caused with quite long-term effects, therefore a custodial sentence is the most likely outcome of this case.”

Evans was granted conditional bail until the sentencing hearing which will be held on February 23.
