'DesB' tags have been sprayed on buildings, noticeboards, grit bins and road signs around the town, upsetting many residents and councillors.

Shifnal Town Council and officers from Shifnal and Albrighton Safer Neighbourhood Team are now working together to try to trace the vandal, while schools in the town have been contacted to see if the 'tags' have appeared in workbooks.

Shifnal resident, Peter Hassall, 76, said: "I have lived in Shifnal for 15 years and I am incensed with this graffiti. The whole town is being covered by senseless graffiti.

"It's on public buildings, private buildings and road signs. A road sign was replaced after it had been targeted, and then straight away there was graffiti on it.

"It is all over the town. I am really annoyed about this.

"I walk around the town on a regular basis and I see the graffiti appearing everywhere I look.

"It is really getting out of hand now - it is stupid."

Residents have contacted the town council to report the spate of vandalism and CCTV in the town has been reviewed by police officers.

PCSO Steven Breese, of Shifnal and Albrighton Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "The incident has been reported to us and we are working with Shifnal Town Council, who have patrolled the town and pin-pointed the locations of the graffiti.

"The local schools have been visited to ask teachers to keep an eye out to see if the same 'tags' appear in work books etc."

A spokesman from Shifnal Town Council added: "I am sure I speak for all residents in Shifnal when I say that this vandalism and total lack of respect for other people's property will not be tolerated.

"All agencies are working together and the person who is responsible will be caught and the matter dealt with by the police."
