The trouble flared between rival fans at Bescot Railway Station on October 7 following the League One fixture which finished 1-1.

British Transport Police said between 4.30pm and 8.30pm hundreds of supports started chanting at each other from across the platforms with the nature of the singing becoming more aggressive and racist.

They have issued stills of eight suspects, four of whom can be seen wearing the blue and yellow Shrewsbury Town colours.

It is not the first time the supporters from the local rivals have clashed.

A mass brawl broke out in Shrewsbury in October 2012 before a League One match which saw police officers injured as they tried stop the fight.

More than a dozen fans were eventually charged with violent disorder by police.

The violence prompted police to step up their preparations and operations for forthcoming matches.

The two teams have since met in the Football League Trophy on November 7 when Walsall travelled to Shrewsbury winning 1- 0.

Their next scheduled contest will be a League One match at 3pm on Saturday, March 10 at Shrewsbury.
