The Baba Ali takeaway in Newtown was struck late on Wednesday evening, as burglars broke into the property on Shortbridge Street.

They entered through a back kitchen door, and took a cash float and till money.

No damage was made to the property, however a hard disc of CCTV data was stolen, and they also took a CCTV box which was above a suspended ceiling.

Dyfed-Powys Police is investigating and owner Sukru Ozdemir, who also has a shop in Welshpool, has been left angered by the incident.

He described the perpetrators as "low life scum," and has called for the community to unite after recent attacks and break ins.

He said: "Unfortunately some low life scum has broken into our shop and stole cash and other property.

"We’ve been running business in this lovely and respectful community for over 10 years ourselves and the business was established 20 years ago.

"We've hardly had any trouble from locals and business owners, always respected the nature of this community and its values.

"I can’t find words to describe what has happened to this lovely town in recent times.

"Tens of local shops have been broken into, people are getting jumped and being caused serious injury.

"What more damage needs to be done to find who is responsible for such incidents?"

Police were at the property on Thursday to take photographs and fingerprint evidence to aid their investigation.

Mr Ozdemir believes local people are angry that incidents, such as this and recent assaults in the town, keep on happening.

He added: "As a local shop owner for many years I call to all other locals, residents and shop owners to unite together and let people hear our voice, stand together against thieves.

"Of course I am upset, not just as an individual but also as a business owner in the area purely because what has been happening recently.

"I’m more concerned about other local shops as I don’t think these incidents are going to stop unless someone is named and punished to relieve the anger of local people and shop owners."

Dyfed-Powys Police was unavailable for comment.
