A police officer from Market Drayton has been charged with raping a 13-year-old girl.

Detectives launched an investigation after Ian Naude, of Shropshire Street, was accused of rape following an alleged attack on November 3 in Crewe.

The 29-year-old appeared at South Cheshire Magistrates Court yesterday where he was remanded in custody to appear at crown court on December 4.

Ian Naude was arrested on Saturday and was charged with the offence the following day, when he was also suspended from duty.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "The victim is a 13-year-old girl and she is receiving specialist care and support.

"As soon as concerns were raised officers took immediate action to investigate the allegation and an arrest was made on Saturday, November 4.

"Ian Naude was served a suspension notice after being charged on the Sunday.

"As a matter of course Cheshire Constabulary has referred the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

"Cheshire Police take all allegations of rape extremely seriously and has specialist trained officers available to provide support."
