Shrewsbury couple are facing dog suffering claim retrial

A couple accused of causing unnecessary suffering to a dog have had their convictions quashed – and now face a retrial.

Ben and Alexandra Evans had each been convicted of the charge at Telford Magistrates Court in their absence last month.

But magistrates allowed the case against the 18-year-olds to be reopened after hearing claims yesterday that they had not received a court summons.

The pair, of Pigeon Door, Condover, near Shrewsbury, each pleaded not guilty to the same charge during yesterday’s hearing at Telford Magistrates Court.

They are accused of failing to take a dog with a fractured elbow and infected wounds to see a vet in November last year.

The case was adjourned to for a trial to take place at Telford Magistrates Court on November 6.

They were released on unconditional bail.
