Shrewsbury man appears in court charged with kidnap and making threats to kill

A man from Shrewsbury has appeared in court via video link to deny kidnap and making threats to kill.

Darren O'Callaghan, 51, of Gains Avenue, Bicton Heath, is accused of kidnapping Claire O'Callaghan on July 30 this year and holding her against her will.

The defendant is also charged with making threats to kill against the same victim and on the same date.

O'Callaghan is further accused of having an article with a blade or point in his possession, namely a knife, at the Sutton Road footbridge in Shrewsbury on July 30.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges when he appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court via video link yesterday.

The judge, Mr Recorder Martin Jackson, adjourned the case and set a trial date for March 6 next year. O'Callaghan will be remanded in custody until that date.
