Jason Langford sexually assaulted the victim in his bedroom at a multi-occupancy house he shared with others in Telford, the court was told.

The 38-year-old, of Shawfield Close, Sutton Hill, is standing trial at Shrewsbury Crown Court on two charges of rape and one count of making threats to kill.

The jury heard all three charges related to the same woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and an incident at his home some time between March 24 and March 27.

Mr James Dunstan, prosecuting, said the pair had agreed to spend the night together but the atmosphere soon turned sour.

"He grabbed her by the throat, spitting in her face. He didn't do that once, but twice, and at that point he also slapped her," saif Mr Dunstan.

"Then he told her that he was going to kill her. He grabbed her by the throat again, so tightly this time she found she was unable to breathe."

The jury was told that later on in the night Langford made demands for sex.

Mr Dunstan said: "Her reaction was exactly what you might expect – it was the last thing she wanted. But she went along with it. We say, however, there is no way of her giving her consent freely when she was so terrified and he had done what he did."

Langford, who claims the sex was consensual, denies all charges. The trial continues.
