Officers have cordoned off an area of woodland at Sweeney Mountain near Oswestry following the discovery.

Searches of the area are now being carried out and forensic officers are trying to establish what the bones are.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "Although work is ongoing at the scene, the investigation into the discovery is at a very early stage and officers believe it is likely to be some time before they establish who or what the bones relate to."
