Patrick Pugh, 22, and Daniel Davies, 25, claimed they were armed with a gun and a knife as they took £100 from the till at the Co-operative Store at Heath Farm, a court heard.

Both Pugh and Davies were caught on CCTV inside and outside the store preparing for the raid in August last year and then carrying out the robbery.

At Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday Davies was jailed for a total of four-and-a-half years having admitted a charge of robbery. Davies, of Wingfield Close, Ditherington, was given a further six months when a suspended prison sentence imposed for affray in 2011 was activated.

Pugh, of Stapleton Road, Shrewsbury, who was jailed for four years, had also admitted robbery. A third man, Nathan McDonough, 20, of Darville, Shrewsbury, was given a 12-month community order after he admitted encouraging or assisting others in the commission of an offence.

Mr Kevin Jones, prosecuting, said customers tried to stop the two men as they made their escape.
