Cash For Your Community 2018 - who do you want to get a share of our £20,000 giveaway?
Do you want to do something to help one of the many charities and organisations which help make Shropshire and Mid Wales such a special place?
Well here is your opportunity. Once more the Shropshire Star is teaming up with Enterprise Flex-E-Rent to give away £20,000 to good causes, and today we announce the 35 groups that have been selected to receive a share of the prize fund.
Each of the groups featured will get a share of the cash – but how much they get is up to you. All you have to do is collect tokens as they are printed in the Shropshire Star and send them on to your chosen group.
The more tokens a group receives, the more cash they will get. And your efforts really will make a difference. The group that collected the most tokens last year walked away with a fantastic £5,000, allowing it to buy crucial new equipment.
Once again, the top prize is £5,000, with the organisation that comes second getting £2,000, and the one in third place receiving £1,000. The other 32 groups will receive a share of the remaining £12,000 based on the total number of tokens they collect.
The 35 groups below were chosen after a painstaking selection procedure, out of a total of 105 groups that applied to take part in this year’s scheme:

Meet the shortlisted groups:
- Click here to read profiles on all of the 35 shortlisted groups, where they outline the valuable work that each performs in their communities, and explain how they will use their share of the money
Some want to use their money to expand their services or set up a new project, others will use it to help with day-to-day running costs or to provide special treats for the people they look after. Some of the organisations target a particular age group, some specialise in helping those with a particular illness or disability. Others are open to everybody, regardless of age or background.
The one thing they all share is a desire to help others and make Shropshire and Mid Wales a better place, and you can do your bit to help them achieve that.
Your role couldn’t be simpler. Just read each of the profiles explaining how the groups plan to use their share of the money, and decide which ones you believe will make the biggest difference. That said, it won’t be easy as every one of these groups does excellent work in its own right.
Once you have decided which group – or groups – you wish to support, you can then start collecting the tokens to lend your support.
The first token is printed in today's Shropshire Star, they will continue to appear in the paper until April 7.
Triple tokens will be printed on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday too.
Simply cut them out, keep them safe, and send them directly to your favourite causes using the addresses in the profiles.
Shropshire Star editor Martin Wright said: “Cash For Your Community is always one of the most rewarding events on the calendar.
“It is an opportunity for our readers to make a real difference by helping the groups which make such a wonderful contribution to our area.
“Just reading through this supplement about the wonderful and varied work that these groups do is remarkable in itself.
“Being able to help them in their work is a fantastic experience.
“As ever, the standard of this year’s entries was extremely high, and we are delighted to working once more with Enterprise Flex-E-Rent to support them in their work.”
Enterprise Flex-E-Rent managing director Danny Glynn said he was delighted to be backing the campaign for the fourth year running.
“It is a pleasure and privilege to again support the Shropshire Star Cash For Your Community initiative,” he said.
“Strengthening relationships with the communities in which we operate is intrinsic to the values of Enterprise Flex-E-Rent and we are proud to work with so many fantastic causes in the Shropshire area.”
The finale of the £20,000 giveaway will come at a presentation at Shrewsbury Town’s stadium in June.
Don’t forget, tokens need to be sent directly to your chosen groups – do not send them to the Shropshire Star.
