The company – which enjoys a nationwide client base – says moves towards the digitalisation of tax returns and the increasing complexity of finance will continue to drive business in the next 12 months.

Turas owner Helen Columb said changes to the Making Tax Digital campaign announced in the Budget had moved the goalposts for many businesses.

“The Budget, not unsurprisingly, confirmed that Making Tax Digital was going ahead, but did introduce some changes to the way it is being introduced.

“There is now a commitment to introduce businesses and landlords with incomes of more than £20,000 – in turnover or rent – into the scheme for self-assessment by the end of this parliament.

“The first staging is April 2026 for businesses and landlords with revenue over £50,000, so we will be working with those clients affected to move them onto the necessary software in good time.

“It is certainly something that businesses should be starting to address and seeking professional help to make sure the transition is as smooth as possible.

“As the financial world becomes ever more complex – and tax in particular becomes more and more complicated – it has never been more important for businesses to have the best accountancy support.

“We have enjoyed strong growth providing outsourced financial support and proactive advice, fostering strong partnerships with business owners to unlock their growth potential.”

In the last 12 months Turas has been awarded Xero Gold Partner Status, allowing it to offer an unrivalled service to clients using Xero accounting software, promoted Kelly Wilson to practice manager and Helen herself has been appointed a trustee of the 4 All Foundation, which aims to advance the education and skills of children and adults across the county.

“I’ve been really impressed with the work that the foundation does. The activities and initiatives that it funds are amazing, particularly in areas where there is no youth provision. I’m looking forward to making the most of my commercial experience to support the work of the foundation and help it to grow,” said Helen.

Turas has also continued to support a range of community initiatives, including sponsorship of the Wellington Walking Festival in September and Helen also took part in a sky dive which raised around £3,000 for the Home-Start Telford and Wrekin charity.

Turas, which is based in Hall Court in Telford Town Centre, started trading in 2013 as Columb & Gosling Accountants.  It changed its name to Turas Accountants four years ago under Helen’s leadership.

It now works with clients across the country covering VAT, company accounts, bookkeeping and payroll. It specialises in e-commerce, helping clients who have online businesses using marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay and Etsy.

Helen added: “We no longer just provide accountancy for our clients. We are regularly involved in putting together bespoke packages of support and advice to help them grow and develop their businesses in a tough environment with increasingly complex accountancy needs.”
